Beginners Guide to a Latex Capsule Wardrobe
Curating a capsule wardrobe is a careful and thoughtful art. You might think it’s just for the normies, but it’s a worthwhile approach to take with latex, as well! I don’t have the budget for a new outfit for every party, and neither does the average person who just wants to slide into rubber.
Whether you’re new to the latex fetish scene or so experienced that you can squeeze into your neck-entry catsuit in under 5 minutes, these tips are for you. They will have you in latex in the streets and the sheets quicker than you can say “shine my back, I can’t reach it!”
If you are the kind of person who likes big, elaborate show stopping pieces that make the room go “Is that Lady Gaga?”, then this isn’t the article for you. But, if you want a latex wardrobe that will give you a solid base upon which to build your look, then you are in the correct dungeon.
Dominatrix allusions aside, I like to have latex pieces that I can pair with my everyday clothing for a nice dinner, the way famous people throw on leather pants to eat a single deconstructed carrot in a fancy restaurant in a trendy city. These tips will get your wardrobe ready for a fashionable fetish party, a private orgy, or your mom’s 50th birthday party.
Do Not Taste the Rainbow
Only buy black. The end.
Just kidding.
Before you start curating your closet, you need to settle on a core colour. So which should you choose?
Look at your existing wardrobe. Is there a colour you always gravitate to, like burgundy, or navy? That should become the basis for your latex wardrobe. If you don’t wear the colour normally, you’ll quickly grow tired of it in latex no matter how shiny it is. If you’re new to latex, buy the colour you wear the most, since it will continue to bring you joy and pair well with existing items in your closet.
If you’re aiming to be a fashion chameleon, buy black, or, for variety, metallic black and metallic pewter. City dwellers thrive in sleek obsidian tones that make it look like the dystopian future has arrived. Black latex easily makes the transition from the aforementioned trendy dinner to full German BDSM dungeon porn. Black is also more forgettable – you can wear the same outfit repeatedly and people will not remember the piece, but they will remember how indescribably attractive you were in it.
Once you have your base colour, determine your pieces.

Once you have all of your basics, here are my tips for putting things together for every occasion!
Jazzing Things Up
With a traditional knit and woven capsule closet, most sources say “buy one or two contrasting pattern pieces”, but options for patterns in latex are limited and expensive. Instead, build off your basics with accessories. One of my favourite people pairs his catsuit with sneakers and a backwards baseball cap, in what he calls his “approachable bro look”. On his way to and from parties he convinces all the other “backwards baseball caps” out there to consider latex as a life choice.
I, on the other hand, like to alternate between full goth vibes or slutty business casual. I pair my items with my New Rock goth boots or pointed toe stilettos depending on my mood.
If you want to add a contrasting colour, buy latex accessories like a bolero or a waist cincher. You can throw them on top of an outfit to change the look.
Rubber for Sunday Brunch
Not ready to commit to full rubber? Pair your latex leggings with your favourite party top and a blazer. Throw on a latex tank/crop top with jeans and your daily necklace for a more casual look. As with regular clothing, earrings, hair, and makeup (or a good beard trim, haircut, and the right shoes) go a long way to transforming your appearance.
Fiscal Responsibility
Latex is no longer relegated to the darkest corners of the internet, with black webpages and unreadable red writing. Celebrities are showing off in latex on the red carpet, in music videos, and while walking around with Kanye. You don’t need a celebrity budget to get started. Etsy has many simple off-the-rack pieces for an affordable start, and you can email your favourite designers and ask if they are selling any samples. While I always recommend ordering custom for better fit and comfort, a mini skirt or tank top will fit well enough even when not made-to-measure.
Polish It Off
Thus I conclude my hot and sweaty tips for putting together a latex capsule wardrobe. Go, be free, be shiny, and show the world your style.
