Farewell, My Oasis
Friends, I have news. I am leaving my position as Event Coordinator and Engagement Liaison at Oasis Aqualounge. For me, this is a Big Fucking Deal, and was an incredibly difficult decision for me to make. I have been at Oasis since 2013 - that’s eight years! I started working at Oasis with the front door hospitality role, eventually transitioning to Aquaflirt (socializing at events), then just to running DTF. As we all know, eventually I left working at a Jewish Youth group to become the event coordinator just in time for Oasis to shut its doors for the pandemic. I was with Oasis as we transitioned to online events, and celebrated when we got to open our doors under the new safety regulations.
I loved running DTF (or gang bang night, as it was called by the regulars). There are women who are interested in being with multiple men at the same time, but this can be difficult to safely arrange. I loved being able to create a space where people felt comfortable to explore this aspect of their sexuality, with a serious party vibe. Going virtual, I’ve loved meeting community members I would otherwise never have met at the club (shoutout to Nudelyweds who literally live in a different country).
During the pandemic, I was able to work on career goals outside of Oasis, including going to school to become a sexual health educator, becoming a sex-positive content creator, and continuing to build Raezor Latex. Many people over the pandemic felt a lot of anxiety, but my pandemic anxiety surfaced during the re-opening phase. I had grown used to setting my own schedule, and was making progress on all my career goals. How was I going to balance all of my projects with working at Oasis past when I normally go to sleep? The healthiest solution for me was to step down from my role. I plan on devoting my time more fully to teaching sexual health, working on latex for clients, and continuing to make sex positive content. I hope to stay in touch with Oasis, and you’ll definitely catch me hanging out there. My last event is going to be our Halloween weekend, so make sure to buy tickets for the Saturday or Sunday if you want to say goodbye in person!
That being said, I’m super excited to announce my newest project! I’ll be leading workshops in November, December, and January with Marisa Swinton (thedishcabinet.com), a fellow sex educator from my program. We’re starting things off with a topic I’m passionate about - Sexually Transmitted Infections! She lives in Calgary so all our offerings will be virtual so you don’t have to worry about travel or Covid to learn something new. I’ll have more information on all of that soon enough.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Love you all,
Rae
